Harrow 1 stay on course

Harrow Vultrix had a busy day of Korfball on Sunday with three games played at the Leisure Centre on Sunday. Vultrix 1 began the proceedings against Lakers Monday with a side missing a number of regulars. It was the visitors who took the lead in an even opening phase and it was a case of near misses for Vultrix as they took time to find their range. However, ultimately, it was the quality of their distance shooting that gave Vultrix the edge over their hard working opponents with Lizzie Tighe Harry Adams and Penny Buttinger sharing the scoring. With Vultrix 4-2 ahead at half time, Lakers began to make a comeback in the second period and in the final phase of the game and got the score back to 6-7. But it was Vultrix who finished the stronger, closing out the game to win 9-6.

Harrow 2 were the next to take on Lakers, still smarting from the heavy defeat they suffered a week earlier. Although the home team were soon trailing 2-0 they remained calm and organised. By half-time they were trailing 4-3, scoring each time from close in. Early in the second half Morgan Bebbington scored from long range to pull the teams level and the game was in the balance. But it was the Lakers’ greater experience that saw them edge the final result, finally winning 7-4.

This was a good performance by Harrow 2, from which they can take some confidence.

Team: Vultrix 2; Ed Darnell, Giovanni Tritto, Amy Freer, Ruth Blakeney, Thomas Darnell, Toramaru Sugawara, Emma Darnell, Eleanor Blakeney,  sub Morgan Beddington.
